Synopsis

“A blistering and breathless psychological thriller guaranteed to hold you captive...” (Bestthrillers.com)

City girl Amy seems to have it all—the high-flying job, the designer wardrobe, a beautiful home. But beneath the successful façade, Amy has secrets she’d rather her bully-boy boss Ed didn’t discover—like her troubled past and the little voice she hears in her head…
When a junior colleague is murdered, Amy’s fragile equilibrium is shattered. She suspects a client’s fraud links Ed to the killing, but is her paranoia working overtime?
As Ed tries to discredit her, Amy fears for her job, her sanity and her life. But she’s a tough professional, not a quitter, and somehow she must find a way to fight back...

It’s a dark psychological thriller set in the cut-throat environment of the City of London, in which a high-flying executive struggles to expose the truth about fraud and murder in a toxic, corrupt workplace. At its heart, this is the story of one woman's struggle against her own insecurities - a universal theme.

"Ken thought he was having a nightmare. He felt fingers prodding him and he couldn’t breathe. The fingers turned to fully formed hands and they multiplied as he watched in fascination as their prodding became more urgent and they started to pull and poke at his body. It took him a while to realise he wasn’t sleeping.
The cold realisation that the pain in his chest had killed him hit like a punch in the guts. He would have been furious had he not been so frightened. Ken tried to compose himself and waited for the beckoning white light that he knew must surely come. But the scabby, gnarled and bloody hands started dragging him downwards. Synopsis

‘Whoever did this wanted to make very sure no one lived to tell the tale.’

Money, murder and love on the high seas

In the world of international shipping, the rules are blurred and the oceans lawless

When instinct tells maritime claims investigator Angus McKinnon that a wave of frauds must be connected, he thinks it’s just business as usual. Instead, he uncovers a ruthless conspiracy born of greed and the lust for power.

As he starts to unravel a trail leading from the post-Soviet drabness of a Black Sea port to a sweltering anchorage in the Gulf of Thailand, a devastating explosion in the Indian Ocean changes everything.

Facing down terrifying childhood memories, torn between two very different women and doubting old friends, McKinnon must navigate a precarious path between secretive government agencies, shady syndicates and avaricious crime lords towards an unpredictable endgame.

Gambling everything on his faith in one man, can McKinnon beat the odds and come out on top?

A gripping page-turner, Sea of Gold draws the reader into a world of extremes, the casual affluence of the super-rich contrasting with the dignified poverty of the desperate. Meanwhile, McKinnon’s two loves – the enigmatic Claire and his devoted, long-term lover, Eleni, vie for his attention.

This debut thriller from Nick Elliott is packed with intrigue – if you love your action spiced with suspense, make Sea of Gold your next read.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT SEA OF GOLD

"Elliott ticks all the boxes in this fast-paced yarn, with a keen eye for descriptive detail and solidly drawn characters. The first-person narrative, complete with ironic asides, is the perfect vehicle for a thoughtful and witty style that draws us swiftly into the shoes of its protagonist, a credible and consistent character."

"The sense of place is utterly authentic. We are taken to far-flung locations - some exotic, some seedy - by an author who has not just visited them but has lived and worked in these places. Nick Elliott has an effortless elegance in his writing, and an ability to create characters who feel real. The story zips along at a fine pace, and the result is a gripping and immersive thriller."

"Angus is good company as he unravels a very twisty plot and discovers an unexpected level of determination (stubbornness?) in getting to the bottom of the mystery and catching the villains, all the while trying to be loyal to his fiery Greek girlfriend while fighting his attraction to a woman from his past."

Synopsis

From Karolina Robinson, Winner of the Centre of Excellence Awards 2017 - Creative Writing...

On one of those magically white winters nights, my mother took me in her arms and shut the doors behind her.
We left my drunken father in the name of a better life. And the name of that better life was Tom, a local gangster with the face of the devil himself.
The next thing I saw was my mother’s bloody face bashed into the ground and teeth scattered around her lifeless body.
I looked at him and thought to myself - PLEASE, DON'T KILL ME.

"The intensity, the drama and harsh reality will leave you gasping."

This story has haunted me all of my life, through the daily flashbacks and nightmares.
It has taken me some time to build up the courage to let this story out of my heart.
And now, with every single word I can live free.
Finally.

Synopsis

"In his debut novel, Ray Green writes with authority and style ... a tense, complex novel set amidst corporate double-dealing and intrigue, where loyalties are tested to the limit and friendship might not always be enough." Daniel Goldsmith Associates, Literary Consultants

For five ordinary guys and one rather extraordinary woman, the only escape from the corporate rat-race is to buy the company they're working for: take it all to a new level, save hundreds of jobs and make some serious money. But it quickly becomes clear that nothing is as easy as it seems. The bid is quickly undercut as twisted corporate politics and personal vendettas take over. When the buyout becomes all or nothing for the management buyout team, it all spins out of control: marriages fall apart, dark secrets are discovered, life savings are spent on the stock market, illegal insider dealing becomes a matter of fact and blackmail, theft, betrayal and manipulation are the new rules of the game. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity turns into a lurid nightmare. Buyout is a gripping and compulsive page-turner about the power of money to unveil the deepest in human nature. It's also a story about chasing one extraordinary dream. At an extraordinary price.

Synopsis

A Rodeo Producer, Dead in the Bull Pen. Accident or Murder?

Elizabeth, until recently a top-flight national TV journalist, is regaining her footing after a dizzying demotion to tiny—and entirely foreign to her—Sherman, Wyoming. But her equilibrium faces a major challenge.

The apparently accidental death — under the hooves of rodeo bulls — of a rodeo producer preparing for Sherman’s annual Fourth of July Rodeo catches the attention of Elizabeth and her KWMT-TV colleague Michael Paycik. Not only is it a major story about the region’s biggest event, but it’s being outrageously mishandled by the station’s egocentric anchor.

As Elizabeth and Michael dig, area rancher Thomas Burrell joins the investigation, providing background on suspects — and there are plenty because the victim had many enemies. But Tom has divided loyalties, so Elizabeth doubts his commitment to finding the truth no matter what. Not to mention that both Mike and Tom show an interest in her ... they might be okay with working together in a peculiar triangle, but the points of this geometry is starting to get under her skin.

… From the tip of the rodeo queen’s tiara, to “agricultural byproducts” ground into the arena dust, TV reporter Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher receives a murderous introduction to the world of rodeo.

Synopsis

On the front lines, where battles are waged and fates decided, two counterterrorism operatives learn they have a lot to fight for—and even more to lose.

Phantom Force Tactical’s Nicholas “Colt” Colton thought the radical extremist he captured years ago was locked away for good. Unfortunately, a new classified mission reveals that the threat is still very real, and corruption within the U.S. government runs deep.

Task Force 2 agent Josephine “Joey” Summers has been working her own angle, trying to figure out where the terrorist leader will strike next. She’s come up with a very plausible—and terrifying—theory, but doesn’t know who she can trust. After teaming up with a retired Navy SEAL, she discovers the plot is even bigger than she’d imagined—and the consequences much more alarming.

When the stakes are this high, promises must be kept. And when thousands of people could die, sacrifices must be made. Only by letting go of their pasts will they have any hope of stopping the chaos. But courage and commitment—plus a pledge—fuse to create an outcome that is both unpredictable and unimaginable.

All books in this series can stand alone.

Excerpt:
Colt looked through the scope of his rifle and blinked away the sweat dripping into his eyes. The man in his ear was ordering him to pull the trigger, while the voice in his head was screaming not to. He knew his partner Josephine “Joey” Summers was in that vehicle, but so were a handful of really bad guys who were getting ready to do a lot of bad things to a large number of innocent people.
Seconds ticked by. The voice in his ear warned him that time was running out.
He had to kill so that others would live.
Taking a deep breath, Colt applied a little pressure to the trigger, and lined up the driver’s head in his sights. He knew it probably didn’t matter where the bullet hit. The vehicle was full of explosives and was going to blow sky-high.

Colt released his breath slowly as the vehicle came closer, and did what he’d promised he’d do.

He pulled the trigger.

If I tell you that I was disinherited by my crazy father, you might understand why I feel a degree of sympathy for Edward. I was interviewed in February 2016 by two BBC Radio 4 producers as part of their Analysis programme on the subject of Inheritance. They’d heard that my book, Random Bullets, deals with the subject of disinheritance and its aftermath.

"Action-packed, thought-provoking, a real ride. I couldn't put it down," "crime with a twist," "An insightful look behind the many faces we wear, and how burning resentments can take you into madness and murder," "Kinetic... really zips along at a pace, I was really drawn in" are just a few of the reader reviews that Random Bullets has received.

Random Bullets is available on Amazon in paperback, Kindle, and audiobook editions.

Synopsis

Over 2,100 5-Star Reviews! Called "a terrifically entertaining thriller!" by Publishers Weekly, Book-1 of the Brainrush series was named The Wall Street Journal #1 Bestselling Action/Adventure in their Guide to Self-Published Big Sellers, while Book-2 held a death grip on the #1 or #2 slots of the Amazon Top-Rated (best reviewed) Mystery/Thrillers list for 10 straight months. This set the stage for the blockbuster release of the final book in the trilogy, which was heralded by Suspense Magazine as "part science fiction, part thriller, part suspense, part love story, and part mystery. It's got it all and that's what makes this novel one of the best."

Before he slid into the MRI machine, Jake Bronson was just an ordinary guy with terminal cancer. But when an earthquake hits during the procedure, Jake staggers from the wreckage a profoundly changed man, now endowed with uncanny mental abilities.

An ocean away, Luciano Battista wants a piece of Jake's talent. Posing as a pioneering scientist, the terrorist leader has been conducting cerebral-implant experiments in a sinister quest to create a breed of super jihadist agents...and Jake's altered brain may be the key to his success. But Jake refuses to play the pawn in an unholy war--and when an innocent woman and autistic child are taken hostage to force his cooperation, he embarks on a jihad of his own. Jake and his band of loyal friends are thrust into a deadly chase that leads from the canals of Venice through Monte Carlo and finally to an ancient cavern in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan--where Jake discovers that his newfound talents carry a hidden price that threatens the entire human race.

The wild ride continues through books two and three of the trilogy, with locations that include the beaches of California, a raging underground river in Mexico, the rain forests of Venezuela, the Mediterranean coast, the Swiss Alps, and finally to a secret southeast Asia island, where Jake must lever every scrap of his failing brain to prevent an apocalyptic disaster.

An "international thriller with soul." Ideal reading for fans of Michael Crichton, Clive Cussler, James Rollins, Brad Thor, Dan Brown, Matthew Reilly, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and Vince Flynn.

Synopsis

A GRIPPING HISTORICAL BRITISH CRIME THRILLER STORY - TOLD BY A YOUNG GIRL WITH A TERRIFYING SECRET

A policeman faces a grim death in a Liverpool inner city cellar. Only two little girls know where he is but they’re too scared to tell. Time is running out for the policeman. Will the girls get help before it’s too late?

Piggy Monk Square is a dark yet frequently very funny novel set in 1970's Liverpool. The action takes place in the volatile period before the Toxteth riots burned much of the inner city down.

A BRITISH THRILLER
This unusual yet very readable British thriller describes a world tainted with deep mistrust and hostility between the local people and the police force. This harsh world is viewed through the eyes of a nine-year-old girl, Rebecca.

Rebecca’s world is changing. Her parents are fighting. Her teachers are cruel. She doesn’t know what to do and turns to her best friend Debbie more and more.

But Debbie’s life is just as tough. With a father who is always dodging the police, and a mother who works her to the bone, Debbie is no Cinderella. The world these girls inhabit is no fairy tale, it is confusing and can be brutally violent.

A TERRIFYING SECRET
No wonder the girls mix reality with fantasy - it’s how they survive, especially when it comes to coping with what will soon become their terrifying secret. A secret that will infuse their childhood with fear and change their lives forever.

The nightmare begins when Rebecca and Debbie are playing in the cellar of a derelict house. A policeman catches them there and warns them not to return to this dangerous old building. But they are both determined little girls with nowhere else to play, so they come back, again and again. Unfortunately for them so does the policeman.

The policeman tries to chase the girls away, but he falls down a ladder and goes ‘asleep.’ The girls try to wake him but can’t. They want to get help but at the same time they know they shouldn’t have been playing in that cellar. They have learned not to trust the police and are so afraid of getting into trouble that they leave the injured policeman alone.

NOWHERE TO TURN
Wishful thinking makes the girls hope that he will get up and go of his own accord and that everything will be okay again. But when they return and find him still there, conscious but unable to move they find another way to help him. A way that doesn’t involve adults. But, their interpretation of ‘helping’ the dying policeman has terrible consequences for them all.

PRAISE FOR PIGGY MONK SQUARE
A stunningly well-written novel. I didn’t want it to end. Tense, joyous, terrifying, comic, tender, magic and tragic – just like childhood itself.’
-Willy Russell

‘Piggy Monk Square is unbearably tense and utterly believable. The voice of its young heroine is so beguiling and convincing that you feel that you've met her...The story forces you to share her terrible secret. Like the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle: illuminating and satisfying.’

-Frank Cottrell Boyce

‘Nine-year-old Rebecca, chirpy as her nickname, "Sparra", is the lively narrator of this disturbing child's-eye view of 1970s Toxteth, over which the spectres of poverty and police brutality hang... Grown-ups don't listen to the likes of Sparra. The punch leaves you gasping.’
-Rachel Hore – The Guardian

‘A gripping, intriguing page-turner which bears testimony to the craft of Jolliffe… One of its most appealing facets is the authentic use of language which at times mirrors the first person appeal in Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident Of the Dog in the Night Time. Grace’s Liverpool childhood has helped her create a truly believable character in her book. It’s also laced with some wry scouse humour too.’

-Mike Chapple - Daily Post

AMAZON UK BESTSELLING RELIGIOUS MYSTERY, BIBLICAL FICTION, and RELIGIOUS FANTASY

A DYING CONDESA'S LAST HOPE
A DISGRACED JUDGE'S CHANCE FOR REDEMPTION
AND A SECRET THAT REMAINED HIDDEN FOR CENTURIES...
✚ UNTIL NOW ✚
The Lazarus Succession takes readers to the ancient scene of Christ's greatest miracle, to medieval Spain, and back to modern-day Europe. In typical Ken Fry style, nothing is as it seems and a surprise awaits at every turn of the page.

"Although similar in many ways to the books by Dan Brown, I enjoyed it more. It was both sophisticated yet down to earth, despite Brodie’s visions. At no point does the author over dramatize the story, but with his excellent grasp of the written word he leads us to accept the surreal as perfectly normal and possible. The writing is excellent, the book is a treasure in itself and I would love to award this six stars."

ON TO THE STORY...

According to legend, Annas Zevi, an artist who witnessed the raising of Lazarus, was told by Christ to paint what he saw. Over the centuries, his completed works has vanished, along with every other painting depicting Lazarus' resurrection. They were rumoured to be sacred icons with miraculous powers.

International Art Recovery Experts, Broderick Ladro and Ulla Stuart, are hired by a disgraced High Court judge, Sir Maxwell Throgmorton, to locate a long lost medieval painting by Spanish artist Francisco Cortez. Like Zevi, his work is said to be divinely inspired.

Throgmorton's client, a wealthy Spanish Condesa, is terminally ill and the icon is her last hope. She will pay and do whatever it takes to find the missing work of Cortez.

Unbeknown to the Condesa, Throgmorton seeks to make a vast personal fortune from the discovery of the paintings, and use it to reclaim his place in society.

Ladro and Stuart learns of Throgmorton's deceit and attempts to thwart his plans. As they delve deeper into the mystery of the missing Cortez painting, they discover a secret that changes their lives forever.

Just as it changed the lives of everyone it touched across the centuries.

Editorial Review
Readers' Favorite, Five Stars

Readers' Favorite

The Scattered Flock is the second novel in The Flock Trilogy by Jana Petken. Set in Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, the book immediately struck me as incredibly well researched and thought out in terms of the historical elements built into the story. The author has a very natural writing style as she develops her characters and the plot itself. David Sanz is the lead character, who is re-introduced following the first book, and is a Spanish Jew who has endured many tragedies in his life to date. We are then introduced to a second protagonist, Rafael Perato, leading a much more regal existence, who gives the reader a definite contrast to the life and times during this era. Both, however, are on their own quest for justice during what is evidently a cruel and torturous period of history.

Jana Petken writes a real page turner in The Scattered Flock, and I didn’t feel that I had missed out by not reading the first book in this series. This is the art and quality of a good writer, one who allows a reader to pick up any novel in any order, but at the same time, leaving me, as the reader, wanting to go back to the start and read the first book in this intriguing and cleverly written trilogy. I congratulate Jana on her style, poise and passion, and whilst the story line can be graphic at times, she does this with grace, making me feel like I was there watching every moment in her characters’ lives. Truly deserving of its five star rating, The Scattered Flock is a fantastic read! Really excellent story - I literally could not put it down, reading from cover to cover!

In the year of Satan, 2066, the structure of the physical world is cracking, and inexplicable paranormal forces are interfering with humanity. The Trinity Investigation Organization, or TIO—a paranormal detective society—is the last protection against the demons, evil spirits, fanatical criminals, and sadists who are trying to destroy the world.

The 92-year-old Pope is pregnant. Although he hasn’t undergone any medical procedures, he carries a human fetus in his abdomen. Is this a case of self-cloning, or is it a mutation? Is this an immaculate conception, or is it Satan’s work?

Claire, Travis, and Prescott, the members of the Capuchin Trinity Team of TIO, are tasked with uncovering the truth about this unusual case and resolving the mystery of whether the Pope is carrying the new Messiah or the Antichrist, and who did it. Their job is to go beyond the physical world into the mind and the spiritual realm, discover a thousand-year-old connection, perform an exorcism, and fight the devil Zepar, while evading the villains who keep trying to assassinate them.

Synopsis

"Justice for the Black Knight" won the 2015 Beverley Hills Book Award for Best Legal Thriller. It was awarded the prestigious star by Kirkus Reviews which called it "...superbly crafted...intricately detailed...a must read story of relationships, prejudice and bravery, a vivid paeon for justice." Red City Review wrote that it "...quite astutely tackles the topic of racism, combining the best attributes of legal thrillers like 'The Firm' with the exploratory and contemplative tone of subtle but powerful works of literature like Ralph Ellison's 'Invisible Man." Clarion Reviews called it "...a twentieth century law and order fable...that has the feel of a true crime mystery, coming of age novel, and high stakes courtroom drama rolled into one..."

This dramatic legal thriller is a story of beautiful relationships wrapped in a dark mystery from the distant past that will decide the fate of a man on trial for his life. Ruby and Annabelle, who became friends during the shadow of the Great Depression, crossing the boundaries that separated them by race, are reunited at the murder trial of Ruby's brother, the last person either of them want to believe would commit such a heinous crime. When they were children, Freddie had created a childhood alter ego called the “Black Knight,” who vowed to fight injustice in the world, and had tried to live up to that ideal throughout his life. But now, Freddie finds himself on trial for the brutal murder of an elderly man of stellar reputation, facing the death penalty, represented by an incompetent attorney, and unlikely to receive the justice he thinks, but isn't sure, he deserves.

Justice for the Black Knight is the story of a 1981 trial, where Annabelle and Ruby reach back into the past to try to prove that Freddie is a hero instead of a villain. It is an inspirational tale of friendship extending beyond the borders of race, which also takes an exciting and realistic look at the process of obtaining justice through the legal system.

With the success of his UK bestselling religious mystery, The Lazarus Succession, Ken Fry once again crafts a cunning and explosive historical thriller unlike any you've read before. If you love codes, legends, and the excitement of discovery, this book is definitely for you.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

ON TO THE STORY...

Tel Aviv, Israel. Archaeologist Joshua Agar makes a stunning discovery when on one of his excavation sites, they unearth an ancient ossuary, untouched since the day it was buried. Evidence and analysis reveals that the contents of the find appear to be the six of the Seven Seals mentioned in the bible's Book of Revelation.

The Seventh is missing.

Meanwhile, a mysterious man has been walking the earth for millennia. He waits... amassing knowledge and power, seeking to bring about the one event that would release him from his endless existence. With the discovery in Tel Aviv, his waiting might soon be over.

Joshua Agar and his team, Professor Simon Rockwell and Dr. Rachel Carver soon realises the significance of their find. An ancient society known as The Keepers awakens, and they are after the Seven Seals. For it has been told, that whosoever breaks the seven seals will have unimaginable power and control over the new world promised through the Second Coming of Christ.

The frantic hunt for the Seventh Seal begins. Through dusty caves, ancient churches, and even within the most secretive vault on earth, they search for clues to the possible resting place of the missing seal.

The archaeologists are not alone. Another ancient secret brotherhood called the Guardians have long protected the Seven Seals, since the time John of Patmos entrusted to them the Seventh. Using their resources, they attempt to discover the identity of The Grand Keeper and impede his plans for global upheaval.

As scientists, the archaeologists perceive their discovery as a historical relic and not a religious find. But with the forces aroused by the unearthing of the artefact, they start to question if there is indeed truth in the story.

The Patmos Enigma will take you on a journey of wonders and thrills as it hurtles from dark truths to enlightening revelations as the war between science and mysticism commences.

Synopsis

The year is 1824. The city is New Orléans when it’s considered the largest city in the South. The flag of France once waved above the city’s Square, but now the American flag has been lifted for all to see. In this city dwell the families who built it, the people who call themselves Creoles. Most of them can't speak English and have made vows that until their eyes are closed by Death, the city of their birth will always be a distant land that belongs to France. Living amongst these families are the wealthiest Creoles of them all, the Jennings, better known as the Devils in Nouvelle-Orléans.

The family’s patriarch, Will, and his two sons, Pierre and Julien, have never lived by anyone’s standards, but those that have been in their family for many years. Their most reputable plantation, Ashleywood, is known secretly amongst slaves near and far as ‘Slaab Heaben.’ And many slaves risk their lives to reach it rather than the North.

But that’s not only what this story is all about. It’s about the wealthy family that resides in the Big House on the Ashleywood plantation that consists of men unafraid to pull the trigger on their enemy. It is about loyalty amongst those you learn to trust most, and the Creole culture as it then existed, and the people of New Orleans trying desperately to hold onto that culture after Americains have arrived and try just as hard to change it.

It’s about a broken family, and failed marriages, and extramarital affairs, and love, and what a father and two sons will go through to get it. It’s about protecting your children, and the people you love when the enemy looks just like you. And forgiveness, and how it can heal a past that many wouldn’t want to remember. And last but not least, it’s about a brothel madam who dabbles with tarot cards, for it is this woman who tells Pierre Jennings to find The Forbidden Lily.

A heart-wrenching family saga by bestselling author Shelley Young. From page one you will live, smell and become a part of New Orleans the way it used to be in the early 19th century.

“...In true Deb McEwan style, there is a lot of dark humor in the novel and you will enjoy this book just as much as the others. These characters have developed beautifully and, as always, the dialogues reveal so much about the new characters. Book Three in the series lives up to the bar set by the previous two wonderful novels. It was amazing.”

Synopsis

The award-winning creator and screenwriter of ground-breaking BBC television show, Spirit Warriors starring Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Games of Thrones) brings you an action packed thrill-ride in her debut novel which will engage and excite fans of Maximum Ride, Dean Koontz's Watchers and The Last of Us.

It's so easy to take things for granted. Take, for example, trees.

Oaks provide shade and plenty of foliage to protect against sudden showers and prying eyes, but there was also the added bonus of load-bearing lower branches that someone nimble could scramble onto should trouble come calling... and you should know, trouble had me on speed-dial.

Living on the streets wasn't a walk in the park, but it was still preferable to what I had to deal with at home, and after some eight months of being on my own, I'd gotten my routine down to a fine art - a morning dumpster dive followed by a dip in the Central Park pond - when one day I stumbled upon this mangy dog being attacked. It wasn't a big deal to help him, but then he ended up saving my life which is when I realized there was something special about him: Muttface wasn't a normal dog - he was crazy intelligent. I'm talking Mensa levels. And he wasn’t an accident either, having recently escaped from a mysterious lab.

We were just getting to know each other when things took a bloody turn. The vet, Sully, a troubled guy who had recently lost his wife to cancer, did what he could and I guess that would've been the end of our story if we hadn't been attacked by a gang of mercenaries who destroyed Sully's clinic and seemed intent on doing the same to us.

So now here we were, the three of us. On the run across the country against a seemingly all-powerful enemy. Who were they and what did they want with us?

Through the danger, terror, and pain, one thing was becoming clear to me: I had finally found the family I had always wanted and I would do anything to keep them safe - even if it meant risking my own life.

"It is a fast-paced and action-packed book with three very different but very sympathetic main characters who will in turn make you laugh, cry and really, really want a dog!" - AlbaR, Amazon Reviewer

"Bandit, Chase and Sully keep this amazing story moving at a fast and furious pace. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this hard to put down book." - JMP, Amazon Reviewer.

"Jo Ho’s screenwriting background is clearly evident in the pacing, which takes all of the time necessary to tell the story and describe the setting and characters but wastes no words doing so... Synopsis

Official Review: Chameleons by Marcus A. Nannini

4 out of 4 stars
________________________________________

At the depths of Pearl Harbor, on the morning of December 7th, 1941, Imperial Japanese Naval Lieutenant Masaharu Yokoyama and his engineer Sadamu Kamita await with bated breath aboard their midget submarine. In present day Kailua, Oahu, a skeleton is dug up in Auntie Lee’s backyard, launching not only a full blown naval investigation, but also a race against the clock to beat the media to the punch. Thus begins Chameleons by Marcus A. Nannini, a breathtaking historical fiction novel that has one foot planted firmly in the actions surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor and the other around a present day investigation that could shed new light on those very events.

One stream in the novel follows Lt. Yokoyama, an elite Japanese naval officer hand-picked to be one of the Japanese empire’s secret midget submarine commanders who will attack the United States in 1941. Upon successfully delivering a crippling blow to the USS Oklahoma, he and his engineer are unable to make it back to their rendezvous point on the submarine from which they launched. They must put into action their contingency plan: slip ashore, meet up with Japanese/American sympathisers, and blend in with the surrounding population as would a chameleon. Lt. Yokoyama is given a new identity, a new job on the island, and a new family history. When the Japanese are gathered up and placed in internment camps, he is sure that he will have the power to motivate his fellow internees to rebel against the American guards and eventually make it back to his Emperor’s navy. However, Lt. Yokoyama quickly realises that there may not be as much animosity towards their incarcerators as he would hope. In fact, he soon finds himself at a crossroads that will challenge the balance between his previous loyalties and his adopted persona.

The second, concurrent stream in the novel follows Lieutenant Commander Christopher Pastwa and his team who are investigating a skeleton that was unearthed during a routine swimming pool construction. Alarm bells immediately ring in everyone’s head when the artifacts found with the skeleton appear to be of Japanese descent and tentatively date back to the Second World War. A notebook found with the artifacts is recovered, translated, and revealed to be that of a midget submarine commander in the Imperial Japanese Navy. The logbook describes his attack on Pearl Harbor and how he and his engineer slipped ashore. Although often hypothesized, the actions of midget submarine commanders during and after the December 7th attacks never had hard evidence to back them up. To make things worse, Lieutenant Commander Pastwa’s team is on a race against the clock to verify the authenticity of these documents and their potential implications, as the local media has caught wind of the investigation. Between the media’s pilfering of Top Secret documents from the investigation and the realisation that Lt. Yokoyama may still be alive, the team rushes to tie up all the loose ends. Admiral Reardon hates loose ends.

The cornerstone of an excellent historical fiction novel is research and it is extremely evident that Marcus A. Nannini has spent countless hours researching his subject. He has gone to painstaking depths to make as many elements of his story as real as possible and has done an amazing job. His descriptions of the training undergone by the submarine commanders, the attacks on Pearl Harbor, the landscapes of Hawaii, and the conflicts later on in the book are nothing short of exemplary. I loved how this book mixed elements from both the past and the present. Either of the storylines could have made an excellent book on their own, but together they add another dimension entirely. The mix of different characters in the present day timeline is also fantastic. There is a refreshing mix of hard-working naval officers, sleazy reporters, traitorous informants, and even a pudgy Petty Officer who lends a smidge of humor (not to mention a few donuts) to the plot. The thing I enjoyed the most about this book is how the concept of loyalty is addressed. In Lt. Yokoyama’s timeline, he has some tough decisions to make on where his loyalties lie. He needs to determine how to live his life during and after his time in the Japanese internment camps. In the modern timeline, the naval investigation team needs to decide whether their loyalty lies in doing the right thing or doing their job regardless of the consequences.

The only part of this book that I had issues with was the ending. There was a lot of build up toward the end of the book and I feel that some of the major conflicts which persisted throughout the novel were resolved a bit too quickly. To be clear, I liked how it ended, but I feel that it could have contained a bit more detail and depth for it to be realistic. As well, I felt that in the last couple of chapters Mr. Nannini was introducing new and irrelevant information to the story (new characters, conflict, etc.) I realise now that this is likely as a build up for future books with the same characters, but I found myself wondering how this fit into our current storyline.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chameleons by Marcus A. Nannini and therefore have no problem giving it 4 out of 4 stars. The quality and complexity of this book, along with how much I enjoyed the subject matter, swayed me from giving it a lower score. I would particularly recommend this book to anyone that has a soft-side for historical fiction, those that enjoy military history, or those that are interested in WWII/Pearl Harbour. If historical fiction really isn’t your cup-of-tea and you have no interest in books focused around military campaigns or investigations, this book won’t be for you. Mr. Nannini’s blend of real life events, a compelling modern day mystery, and vibrant characters has resulted in a first-class novel which could easily become a lasting gem in its genre.

His besotted wife, Caroline, and their three children set out to join him seven years later when he finally writes to her.

Elean Cameron accompanies Caroline as companion and tutor. Elean is an out-going Scottish lass, highly intelligent, but trusting, and impulsive. He can’t dismiss her without a valid reason or else he’ll lose a considerable sum of money. Henry plots and schemes to get what he wants, drawing his family into his cage through devious means.

Elean loves the outdoors and escapes each evening to walk to the top of Sunshine Hill. There she meets one of the Maori prisoners, Tarapipipi, who also seeks the peace of Sunshine Hill. After a shaky start they become good friends.

Henry becomes more dominating and finally Caroline realises that he only cares for her money. Synopsis

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you woke up in someone else’s body? What if you also got to be fifteen years younger and fifty pounds lighter, with all your money troubles behind you? But what if you had to choose between your handsome lover and your rich husband, when both turned out to be strangers with secrets of their own? “Beatrix Reincarnated” is the ultimate “what if” story. On the New Year’s Eve of 2011, Beatrix Lin, a twenty-eight-year-old overweight and lovesick junior financial analyst from New York finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her and dies in a freak accident shortly after midnight. With a little mix-up in the Underworld, she is reincarnated into the body of a beautiful thirteen-year old Lin Bee-Er, daughter of the powerful Right Prime Minster “Lord Toad” in a hypothetical Sheng Dynasty of ancient China. Bee-Er / Bea is thrust into a blind, arranged marriage with a pimple-faced teen she nicknames “Rudolph”, son of the equally powerful “Prince Terminator”. She soon realizes her in-laws’ feudal polygamous household contains all elements of a modern dysfunctional family, complete with a stern, violent military dad, spendaholic desperate housewives, an alcoholic gambling addict, and a confused and angry Emo-boy. She must maneuver between jealousy and backstabs of her new husband’s concubines—neurotic poet “Tooth Fairy” and the seductive but lethal “Carmen”. With her sharp business sense and her gift in marketing, she has to rescue the family’s failing finance while scheming against in-laws who behave like evil characters out of the movie “Horrible Bosses”. She must also face “Loverboi”—the old Bee-Er’s lover, a mysterious boy with formidable martial art skills and a shady past. It is a tale of passion and revenge, set in a swashbuckling olden China and told in the style of Bridget Jones Diary. It is also a step-by-step playbook on how a modern, white-collared woman takes on an ancient, feudal familial hierarchy by applying her skills on corporate politics. In the end, this is a story about how a self-confessed loser of the “game of hearts” finds true love again, and again.

Book cover image for Flight of the Forgotten: A True Story of Heroism and Betrayal
View full details

Synopsis

Flight of the Forgotten is the true story of one of the most closely-guarded American military secrets of all time. It is intriguing, controversial and thought-provoking. The story traverses 50 years, two generations and the realities of our physical world.
The triggering event is the tragic loss of an American Eighth Air Force bomber crew in 1945 under mysterious circumstances while enroute home after the end of World War II.
The loss represents a 50-year-old aviation mystery, officially "forgotten" by the United States Government. Details described and amplified within the story remain permanently "buried" inside a top-secret O.S.S. file to this day. This book is a public counter to official efforts by the United States Government to have the events permanently erased from the public record. The author's extensive research indicates that those events involve murder, conspiracy and sabotage by the O.S.S., the forerunner to the modern CIA.

Synopsis

Brilliant young trial attorney J.T. Lockman finds himself in the trial of a lifetime when he's appointed to represent an innocent African American man accused of murdering a wealthy white man in a county where the Klan has ruled supreme for many years. Lindsey Wilkens, a proud family man, has already experienced the impact of racism on a jury verdict. He was charged with dealing in stolen property for selling an electric saw he found abandoned in the woods as he walked home from work. He went to trial against his attorney's advice and learned that innocence didn't matter when it came to a finding of guilt in a courtroom set in one of the state's most infamously racist counties. Now, when he finds himself in the bowels of a jailhouse run by the sheriff whose reputation is what gives the county its shameful notoriety, he turns to the same attorney, a man he'd learned to love during his first experience with criminal justice. Lockman embraces the chance to right what he considered a terrible wrong the first time his client was convicted, but he faces the wrath of public opinion, as well as the anger of his friends, family, and the woman he loves as he takes on the establishment of the county, bringing to the surface the many ghosts of its racist and violent past. In doing so, he must also come to terms with his own past if he will have any chance to save his relationship with the first woman he's ever really loved. This is a book that makes us face the reality of our past, but carries within its pages a hope for a future where we, as a society, may be able to move beyond the disease of racism, although the journey may destroy the lives of many along the way.

My first book, "Justice for the Black Knight," was also about the hope for a future free of the diseases of the past. It was praised as a twentieth century law and order fable and compared to a combination of the best of legal thrillers like "The Firm" with the contemplative, but powerful, tone of works of great literature like Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man."

My stories are full of live and realistic courtroom drama, drawn from my thirty year career as a trial and appellate attorney who fought for her clients' rights from the trial court to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Synopsis

She's a prosecutor chasing demons. He's wrestling them. Will they find proof of innocence? Or will the demons win?

Every prosecutor has one – the case that won’t let go, long after the verdict. Maggie Frye’s has just jumped from nightmare to worst-case reality.

Four and a half years ago, she served as special prosecutor in a remote mountain county in Commonwealth of Virginia v. J.D. Carson. Shaking off echoes of the family tragedy that drove her to be a prosecutor, she did her damnedest, despite cards stacked against her. The verdict? Not guilty. A moment that rattled her in ways she’s done her best to bury.

Except now another young woman has been killed in chillingly similar circumstances.

Either Maggie prosecuted the right man and got the wrong verdict or she prosecuted the wrong man and got the right verdict. Either way, a murderer is free to strike again. And there is J.D. Carson -- not only still in town, but far too close to the investigation for Maggie’s comfort.

But Maggie’s going to be part of this part of this investigation, too. Because this time she’ll get it right … no matter what it costs her.

NOTE FROM PATRICIA McLINN TO CAUGHT DEAD IN WYOMING READERS: Proof of Innocence and its upcoming sequel, Price of Innocence, do not have nearly as much humor as the Caught Dead mysteries, though there is some. (I just can't help myself.) They're a bit grittier and darker ... though not in the deep end of grit and dark. I strongly recommend you read the preview to be sure this is something you would enjoy.

Here’s a bit of what the story is about…

In spite of years of successful academic achievement, Dr. Harold Treadwell, a PHD psychologist at Philadelphia’s Jess Hawkins University (JHU), has extremely low self-esteem. Memories of a year’s earlier incident plague him and he loses himself in the complexities of a sleep-study research project.

Harold’s proposed research focuses on sufferers of undiagnosed and untreated mysterious pain… mental and physical difficulties that appear without warning and ruin lives. Harold spends five-years designing a sleep-stasis chamber… a necessary apparatus in the proposed study. Finally, he submits a grant application to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Its approval is in doubt until an unexpected source of support with NIH influence surfaces.

“That much is all in the “IN THE BEGINNING” intro,” explained Pollens, “and I believe is enough to excite readers who will want to get the full tale.” The intro runs more than 35 pages and more than 7000 words. Synopsis

*The editing mistake noted in a previous review of this book - namely a chapter appearing twice - has now been corrected. My apologies to anyone who bought this edition of the book.* Cole Jensen is a hack who makes good money writing bad books about women - until another hack comes along and usurps him, and he finds himself bankrupt and homeless. He is taken in and given a job by Constance Morrell, an icily beautiful woman who feels she owes him a favour.

Now home is a pool house at the bottom of the garden of a mansion in the Hollywood hills. There are many perks to his new living situation, but there are also drawbacks, not the least of which is being expected to entertain the odd, sinister women Constance invites to her nightly soirees. Cole's disturbing encounters with these women give him the inspiration to begin work on the novel he's always wanted to write - a social satire on the nocturnal activities of the rich and bored - but with the party games getting darker and the guest list dropping by the day, Cole must decide whether artistic integrity is really worth dying for.

Synopsis

Terrorism rising in Europe and the Middle East...global economies in disarray...tiny Israel threatened by enemies on all sides. Is this old world finally about to die?

In Voices, this question festers just below the conscious level all over the world, especially in light of an event thirteen months earlier when millions of people simply vanished from the earth.

Most of those remaining comfort themselves by playing along with the more or less official explanation—that UFO’s came by and beamed certain people aboard for reasons unknown. But deep inside they realize that explanation is nothing but a convenient fantasy and that in reality an event of Biblical proportions has occurred.

Daniel Goldman is among those who try to ignore the Disappearance. Consistent with his life-long commitment to rigid self-determination, he has pushed the matter out of mind and become even more fanatically focused on his work as an international investor.

But on a Monday morning in late September events outside his control begin to chip away at his comfortable ignorance. Everywhere he goes he finds himself hotly pursued and people wanting things from him he’d never contemplated. As he travels the globe negotiating the largest oil deal on the planet—and as an ancient empire gradually re-awakens—he meets and falls in love with a beautiful Israeli woman. She, together with her family and their rabbi, help Daniel discover he has never really been the “captain of his soul.” Instead, all his life a variety of “voices” have guided him to a single decision with eternal consequences. The Biblical Apocalypse is upon them and, one way or another, Daniel is destined to play an important role in prophesied events.

This novel, the first of a series about the end of this age, shows the world is not coming to an end—only this current evil age is. It also treats the Bible as the inerrant Word of God and presents a plausible picture of the end times according to a literal reading of its prophetic revelation.

Synopsis

About Pea Pod Murder

Suzie is super smart, very successful and flawed, she believes herself to be unlovable.
Released from twenty five hour working days, by the sale of her company, the repressed desire to find and destroy her Father’s murderer has re-emerged as a driving passion.
Her Father’s case is cold, her route around insufficient data, is to design a cutting edge case management solution and sell it to the Metropolitan Police, so she can plunder their data.

Owen was a personable, successful police officer, a Chief Superintendent. That was until his wife and daughter were destroyed by a bomb meant for Owen.
Owen is seeking a path to oblivion, eschewing friendship and support in his dark quest.

Suzie’s plan progresses, she is seconded as a Detective Sergeant, to trial her software. On being tasked to solve a violent murder, Suzie’s singular focus is subverted by her desire to find justice for the violated victim of the crime.
As the truth relating to the murders is slowly revealed, Owen who doesn’t want love comes closer to Suzie who can’t be loved. Will their budding friendship be allowed to blossom, or will death or the dark sides of their natures intervene?

Synopsis

The Wall Street Journal #1 bestselling author Richard Bard, who entertained fans with his wildly successful Brainrush thriller series, now unleashes the heart-pounding series finale in a two-book ride that will take your breath away.

Jake Bronson's family and friends are mourning him. They'd watched as he sacrificed himself so their lives could return to normal. But normal wasn't to be. The megalomaniac whom Jake had killed during his suicide assault left a legacy of videos that damn Jake and everyone associated with him, leading to a price being put on their heads, dead or alive. They go to ground, unaware their every move is being tracked by a new breed of young, tech-savvy jihadists about to unleash vengeance on America's homeland--with Jake's family and the unsuspecting citizens of Los Angeles in their crosshairs.

As the jaws of the terrorist trap begin to close, Jake's eight-year-old son, Alex, faces a threat of his own. He carries a deadly secret that endangers the world, and now that his father is dead, Alex is the only one who can deal with it. He slips away to heed the call of unearthly visions that demand his presence, and his journey draws him to the back alleys of Bogota, Columbia, where he encounters a group of terminally ill orphans. One of their siblings has been abducted by child traffickers. Alex can't ignore their cry for help, and the unlikely alliance plans a nothing-to-lose rescue mission that has little chance of success.

But the bloodthirsty outcry against Alex's family and friends reaches beyond those who wish them harm, as do the visions that reveal their dark secrets to Alex. Help is on the way...

An "international thriller with soul." Ideal reading for fans of Michael Crichton, Clive Cussler, James Rollins, Brad Thor, Dan Brown, Matthew Reilly, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and Vince Flynn.

Synopsis

Detective Hiroshi Shimizu investigates white collar crime in Tokyo. He’s lost his girlfriend and still dreams of his time studying in America, but with a stable job, his own office and a half-empty apartment, he’s settled in.

When an American businessman turns up dead, his mentor Takamatsu calls him out to the site of a grisly murder. A glimpse from a security camera video suggests the killer was a woman, but in Japan, that seems unlikely. Hiroshi quickly learns how close homicide and suicide can appear in a city full of high-speed trains just a step—or a push—away.

Takamatsu drags Hiroshi out to the hostess clubs and skyscraper offices of Tokyo in search of the killer. She’s trying to escape Japan for a new life by playing a high-stakes game of insider information. To find her, Hiroshi goes deeper and deeper into Tokyo’s intricate, ominous market for buying and selling the most expensive land in the world.

When Takamatsu inexplicably disappears, Hiroshi teams up with ex-sumo wrestler Sakaguchi. They scour Tokyo’s sacred temples, corporate offices and industrial wastelands to find out where Takamatsu went, and why one woman would be driven to murder when she seems to have it all.

After years in America and lost in neat, clean spreadsheets, Hiroshi confronts the stark realities of the biggest city in the world, where inside information can travel in a flash from the top investment firms to the bottom of the working world, where street-level punks and teenage hostesses sell their souls for a small cut of highly lucrative land deals.

Hiroshi’s determined to cut through Japan’s ambiguities—and dangers—to find the murdering ex-hostess before she extracts her final revenge—which just might be him.

Synopsis

This Mystery/Suspense/Supernatural Thriller will take you to places where you might have been and places where you have never been.
The life of Raleigh Stover, the main character of the novel, seemed simple enough. He was trying to make a "go "of his small movie memorabilia business while working, as a bookkeeper, in a downtown office. He also dreamed of courting the intriguing Ivy, who was employed in the same building where he worked. His weakness--he liked to play act, drawing on props from his store, humorously impersonating the likes of Sherlock Holmes or, as when he goes on a cruise--a swashbuckler. But when his flights of fancy start taking on a life of their own he begins to question what is happening. Further along, a series of strange occurrences suggest that some sort of supernatural influence could be in play. Raleigh's life starts turning upside down when he discovers he is becoming a pawn in the bizarre scheme of a frightening madman--a wealthy, rogue archaeologist with multiple international identities, who has some vague connection either to Raleigh or his little side business. The steering winds push Raleigh, with Ivy beside him, toward an inevitable confrontation with this adversary.
The title ' Waltzing with the Wind ' takes on different meanings throughout the book. The reader will sense this as he or she glides through the pages.

“One of the most vivid illustrations of post-apocalypse I’ve ever read.”

“A great dystopian Earth and how one woman loses all hope as everything bad happens around her.”

Captured during the Battle of Missoula, and the Ceremony of the Bond now complete, Ericka Martin must rely on her physical capabilities if she wants to live long enough to return to her ever-growing, rag-tag army of human survivors.

The Babisianx are moving forward in their goal of complete domination.

Humans aren’t allowing the lack of electricity, running gas or water stop them from fighting back. Earth is theirs, and they’re doing all they can to get her back, only to discover the Babisianx hadn’t come to Earth alone. They brought other alien species with them, and some of these species want nothing more than to sink their teeth into human flesh.

But humans have something that King Sammo has ignored, and that’s a strong will to survive and the strength to never give up. Known as the Spirit of Eiglexx, it rises as human survivors get primitive in their defenses against the aliens.

Ericka soon discovers that living amongst the enemy has it rewards. Her genetic alterations allows her to run faster and hit harder. Most importantly, she discovers that America has a secret, and that secret can blow the aliens out of our world. Now all she has to do is somehow get that secret back to her army, and the key to making this happen may be in the one person she least expect.

Prince Hamut is the most powerful of the Babisianx, and the same person she’s been given to as a mate. Will he help her achieve her goal or is his bond with the King of Babis stronger than anyone suspects?

Synopsis

Is she human?

For years Ericka Martin has been told even by her father that she couldn’t be human. With the rare gift to look into someone’s eyes or smell someone’s cologne, she can see intimate moments of a person’s life in such details it’s frightening to listen to.

During each day, she has visions and her visions always come true. She also hears voices and what the voices oftentimes tell is how to avoid danger. Doctors that examined her believe she’s psychic, a precog, a retrocog, but also believe Ericka must be something more.

Maybe she is.

In the mountains of Blue Trees, Ericka has arrived to find a family missing in the forest, but people aren’t all that’s found between the trees. What she and the rescue team discover is a government secret so deadly, staying alive proves more than a challenge.

Has Ericka been lured to the mountain for other reasons? And why is she in the mountain the same day Earth loses contact with all of its satellites? If that’s not bad enough, why after minutes of arriving, Ericka has a vision of an invasion and an apocalyptic world the kind no one has ever imagined?

They’re coming and their abilities and technology will make them the dominant species.

Once again, Ericka’s vision is far from wrong. An invasion of mass proportion and well-thought out, billions of people lose their lives. It seems no one can stop the arriving species, but maybe someone can outsmart them, and it could be this reason Ericka Martin had been born.
