View full details

Synopsis

At nine, Orbie seems to live his life along a precipice. He is burdened with an overabundance of difficult choices which would be beyond the capacities of most boys his age—but Orbie is about to discover that he’s no ordinary boy. In the debut novel from artist and poet Freddie Owens, nothing is ever precisely what it seems: prejudice is not innate, the dead aren’t really dead, and those in positions of power cannot be trusted.

Orbie finds himself deposited at his grandparent’s home in Kentucky one summer, his stepfather, Victor, having had a change of heart about including him on a family prospecting trip to Florida. Except “heart” doesn't seem, to Orbie, quite the right word to apply to his stepfather, whose tempestuous temper took him from the widowed family’s salvation to its most dangerous element in one outburst flat.

Then Like The Blind Man: ORBIE'S STORY is an electrifying porthole to the South of the ‘50s, where, though inane prejudice may have dominated, kindness and justice also had a place. Orbie’s sharecropping grandparents, by defying convention with unnerving grace, become founts of colloquial wisdom whose appeal is impossible to resist, and the Orbie they nurture—the best version of a boy who may otherwise have been lost—is someone the reader comes to love. – Michelle Anne Schingler / ForeWord Reviews

Jake’s placid, anonymous life in Italy is shattered by the arrival of an assassination squad hell-bent on eliminating him—and he has no idea why he’s in their crosshairs. He’s saved only when an American scientist intervenes, wielding strange technology that briefly reactivates Jake’s dormant memories and deadly skills.

Synopsis

“A blistering and breathless psychological thriller guaranteed to hold you captive...” (Bestthrillers.com)

City girl Amy seems to have it all—the high-flying job, the designer wardrobe, a beautiful home. But beneath the successful façade, Amy has secrets she’d rather her bully-boy boss Ed didn’t discover—like her troubled past and the little voice she hears in her head…
When a junior colleague is murdered, Amy’s fragile equilibrium is shattered. She suspects a client’s fraud links Ed to the killing, but is her paranoia working overtime?
As Ed tries to discredit her, Amy fears for her job, her sanity and her life. But she’s a tough professional, not a quitter, and somehow she must find a way to fight back...

Concealment is the second novel of British author Rose Edmunds. It’s a dark psychological thriller set in the cut-throat environment of the City of London, in which a high-flying executive struggles to expose the truth about fraud and murder in a toxic, corrupt workplace. At its heart, this is the story of one woman's struggle against her own insecurities - a universal theme.

Praise for Concealment:

“Concealment is brilliant thriller set in the cut-throat world of high finance.” (Scatterbooker blog)

“What makes this novel special is the way the author illuminates Amy’s deteriorating mindset”. (A Woman’s Wisdom blog)

“The psychological harassment handed out to the lead character made me weep it was so realistically portrayed” (Senior HR professional)

“Amy's own descent into psychological hell is fabulously well done, and I found the parts that looked back into her childhood absolutely fascinating”. (Terry Tyler book blog)

“There is treachery and confusion in a story I couldn’t put down!” (Lost in a book blog)

Synopsis

The award-winning creator and screenwriter of ground-breaking BBC television show, Spirit Warriors starring Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Games of Thrones) brings you an action packed thrill-ride in her debut novel which will engage and excite fans of Maximum Ride, Dean Koontz's Watchers and The Last of Us.

It's so easy to take things for granted. Take, for example, trees.

Oaks provide shade and plenty of foliage to protect against sudden showers and prying eyes, but there was also the added bonus of load-bearing lower branches that someone nimble could scramble onto should trouble come calling... and you should know, trouble had me on speed-dial.

Living on the streets wasn't a walk in the park, but it was still preferable to what I had to deal with at home, and after some eight months of being on my own, I'd gotten my routine down to a fine art - a morning dumpster dive followed by a dip in the Central Park pond - when one day I stumbled upon this mangy dog being attacked. It wasn't a big deal to help him, but then he ended up saving my life which is when I realized there was something special about him: Muttface wasn't a normal dog - he was crazy intelligent. I'm talking Mensa levels. And he wasn’t an accident either, having recently escaped from a mysterious lab.

We were just getting to know each other when things took a bloody turn. The vet, Sully, a troubled guy who had recently lost his wife to cancer, did what he could and I guess that would've been the end of our story if we hadn't been attacked by a gang of mercenaries who destroyed Sully's clinic and seemed intent on doing the same to us.

So now here we were, the three of us. On the run across the country against a seemingly all-powerful enemy. Who were they and what did they want with us?

Through the danger, terror, and pain, one thing was becoming clear to me: I had finally found the family I had always wanted and I would do anything to keep them safe - even if it meant risking my own life.

Forced to call on resources she didn't know she possessed and thrust headlong into the violence of a situation for which nothing could have prepared her, Stella’s suddenly face to face with the stark reality of medical experimentation and its horrifying consequences.

But in a world of uncertainties, she’s sure of one thing - this hero stuff really isn't her. Normal, or as near as damn it is what she wants, and if that means smothering her instincts and adjusting her expectations well so be it. At least she'll know should she slip off the wagon occasionally, it'll be choice not chance, and to suit herself.

Isn't it a fact though, just when you think you've got yourself on track, events can overtake and derail you?

Relatively Strange, the first in the Strange Series introduces Stella; her irreverent sense of humour, the conviction she always knows best and an overdeveloped sense of justice. Throw into the mix a complete inability to keep her nose out of other people's business and some serious psi abilities, and results are as unpredictably uncomfortable as you might expect.

Synopsis

Gerard's only wish is to escape the dark of chronic paranoia to be closer for his lonely daughter. He accompanies Rosie to violin lessons with eccentric but friendly tutor Miss Stein. But could the old spinster's often foul-smelling "wishing" well really be a place for his wish ?

Music tutor Ruth, fascinating Rosie's father for her sensitivity, becomes his confidante and Gerard clings to the hope that the tutor can help bring him closer to Rosie, but soon he must wrestle with his suspicions again, for Ruth mothers Rosie, almost smothers...

Reaching out to a broken doll, propped in the darkness at the bottom of Ruth's garden wishing well, where Ruth plays with Rosie during the lesson intervals, Gerard wants to believe that what he touches and smells is just the decay of sacks enfolding a doll... the closest to a child that the lonely old spinster could cling. Investigating, Gerard's first doubts for Rosie's safety begin to mount. Is he just being paranoid again?

Rosie draws closer to her father, notices his new concern but, if she is in danger, can her Dad save her ? Can Gerard, in turn, triumph over the emotional void of paranoia; feel, accept, he and Rosie could share the parent-and-daughter love of which others speak so easily?

'All the characters are built up so stealthily we fail to notice that odd behaviour could develop into obsession and dark foreboding secrets.'

' Atmospheric, vibrant, spooky page-turner. '

Reay Tannahill - historian, novelist and author of The Seventh Son.

'Growing up in a suburb of Chicago, the first scary movie I remember seeing was the 1965 Bette Davis movie, The Nanny. To this day, that movie has always stuck with me as one of the great psychological thrillers of all time. For me, A Child from the Wishing Well, is reminiscent of that movie.'

Synopsis

"I thought I’d knocked him out, but in a flash he’d turned on to all fours and was crawling swiftly, spider-like, back towards us. He still held the knife, so I set fire to the handle. The wood flamed and he hissed in pain but didn’t let go. It was all turning rather awkward.”

With the swinging sixties staggering, shamefaced and flustered, into the slightly staider seventies, life for Stella, isn’t going as smoothly as she’d like. As an ordinary person, who happens to have some extraordinary abilities, it's frustrating to find that something as simple as holding down a job, throws up unexpected hurdles.

She'd be a darn sight better off if she could ditch the conviction she knows best which, together with a chronic inability to keep her mouth shut and her nose out of other people's business, has led her more than once off the straight and narrow into the dodgy and dangerous. Plans for a safer future, include setting herself up in business, squashing her over-active conscience and steering clear of risky and unpleasant. Unfortunately, the best laid plans can lead to the darkest places.

Recent review: 'Beautifully written, this book will grab readers on a visceral level. Stella is both heroine, victim and villain, and one of the most compelling characters I have encountered in some time. For the Love of Books.'

Aristo's obsessive need to trace and belong to his family - even though he was told they were all burnt and left unidentifiable during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus - has estranged his English wife, and is gradually distancing his only child while, in turn, Pavlos has a consuming need to feel he belongs; that he has a Dad who will make time - for him.

As the practices at Papas' late-night museum 'staff meetings' unfold themselves to Pavlos, the boy is led deeper into a sinister confrontation with what Papas calls his 'family', but which brings Pavlos, through the ancient face-masks and relics, to the unquiet souls of Greeks believed to have been thousands of years dead.

Both a father's and a son's need to belong, so long mutually exclusive, so long tested, are at the core of this novel. Father and son... or strangers forever ?

Called "a terrifically entertaining thriller!" by Publishers Weekly, Book-1 of the Brainrush series was named The Wall Street Journal #1 Bestselling Action/Adventure in their Guide to Self-Published Big Sellers, while Book-2 held a death grip on the #1 or #2 slots of the Amazon Top-Rated (best reviewed) Mystery/Thrillers list for 10 straight months. This set the stage for the blockbuster release of the final book in the trilogy, which was heralded by Suspense Magazine as "part science fiction, part thriller, part suspense, part love story, and part mystery. An ocean away, Luciano Battista wants a piece of Jake's talent. Posing as a pioneering scientist, the terrorist leader has been conducting cerebral-implant experiments in a sinister quest to create a breed of super jihadist agents...and Jake's altered brain may be the key to his success. But Jake refuses to play the pawn in an unholy war--and when an innocent woman and autistic child are taken hostage to force his cooperation, he embarks on a jihad of his own. Jake and his band of loyal friends are thrust into a deadly chase that leads from the canals of Venice through Monte Carlo and finally to an ancient cavern in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan--where Jake discovers that his newfound talents carry a hidden price that threatens the entire human race.

The wild ride continues through books two and three of the trilogy, with locations that include the beaches of California, a raging underground river in Mexico, the rain forests of Venezuela, the Mediterranean coast, the Swiss Alps, and finally to a secret southeast Asia island, where Jake must lever every scrap of his failing brain to prevent an apocalyptic disaster.

To make matters even worse, it looks as though the killer may have identified McClung’s new bride as his next target.

Trapped together on the high seas, it’s now a matter of survival and a race against time.

What people are saying about “Criminal Kind.”

“Marian and Charlie McClung are the best crime-fighting couple since Jennifer and Jonathan Hart. CRIMINAL KIND, the third in this wonderful series, is like taking a vacation. A vacation with murder. The setting is gorgeous, the mystery masterful, and if you think you know whodunit, you'll never guess how. I'm a huge fan.” ~ Gretchen Archer ~ Author of the USA Today Bestselling Davis Way Crime Caper Series

"Oh, the shenanigans! Charlie and Marian's honeymoon with a touch of murder kept me entertained to the very last page. Kick back, pour an umbrella drink, and tag along with the delightful McClungs as they track down an ingenious cruise ship killer." ~ Alice Loweecey ~ Author of the Giulia Driscoll mysteries

“The story leads you through a maze not of who done it, but of who would have. Marian and Charlie do it again ... balancing their love for each other while hunting down a truly creative and diabolical killer.” ~ Marlene Patterson ~ A Cozy Girl Reads

Synopsis

After shooting and killing his nephew, a gunman runs wild in a London park. What drives Edward to commit such heinous acts? Who will survive yet another of his moments of madness? The action takes place in Jersey, Cornwall, Manchester, London and other places not of this world. Set in 2015, Random Bullets is a crime thriller with a paranormal twist.

If I tell you that I was disinherited by my crazy father, you might understand why I feel a degree of sympathy for Edward. I was interviewed in February 2016 by two BBC Radio 4 producers as part of their Analysis programme on the subject of Inheritance. They’d heard that my book, Random Bullets, deals with the subject of disinheritance and its aftermath.

"Action-packed, thought-provoking, a real ride. I couldn't put it down," "crime with a twist," "An insightful look behind the many faces we wear, and how burning resentments can take you into madness and murder," "Kinetic... really zips along at a pace, I was really drawn in" are just a few of the reader reviews that Random Bullets has received.

Random Bullets is available on Amazon in paperback, Kindle, and audiobook editions.

Synopsis

Can Miranda trust her hypnotist ? Can a family avoid being split by the paranoia of one ? Can an unexpected romance survive ? There is a sense of 'presence' of ghosts, but the 'Cupboard of Skeletons' houses people with dark secrets which haunt and test their lives, those who challenge fate and, against all odds, can find something of their dreams.

The stories reflect a whole spectrum of emotions ; from tenderness to private anguish, from outward normality to the inwardly dysfunctional and the endangered relationship. But always - at the core - the themes reach out to those left lonely within a crowd; they alone who know that, for the moment, their brave face is a veil.

Raymond Nickford has a degree in Psychology and Philosophy from University College of North Wales. Troubled souls, the lonely, his inspiration.

Some of the themes :

Psychological suspense, dysfunctional relationships, love, tenderness, atmospheric, ghosts, literary fiction.

Synopsis

Although my degree was in Psychology and Philosophy, my interest in the lonely, the outsider and the dysfunctional and their search for love has been inspired more by life and a feel for translating life into character and so into fiction.

I suppose my love of the expressive power of language leaves my work hovering somewhere between literary fiction and character observation - characters tested and driven to extremity and yet who still have the option to find happiness.

I hope each book title will deliver the sincerity of this, granted that each will have a different, setting, location, plot synopsis and emotional core. Here is a customer review.

The first story, "A Musical Calling", seemed at first just a well written portrait of a guy, Sam Baldock, who suffered the delusions or calling of voices, as a schizo. But this one, like the others, with the exception of the romance at the end, lulled me with its apparent realism only to leave me well and truly in the presence of the supernatural.

A ghost in itself isn't usually enough for me but I have to say that the troubled characters, as drawn, really drew my interest.

If the ghost was never identified or even directly implied in these stories, there was still a mounting feeling in each as if the dark spread wings of a vulture loomed ever closer and those wings were going to engulf, the beak to stab away at a point unknown. Whether the feeling was delivered by Dr Harditch, the less than professional Harley Street hypnotist treating a nurse for her fear of spiders or by Sam Baldock, the schizophrenic dad remote from his lonely little daughter and committed to an asylum where he thinks he hears the voice of Beethoven calling him, the stories did get under my skin.

The two main plots unfold in strictly-organised chronological sequence over ten days until a climactic ending when the two narrative-lines coalesce in a spectacular confrontation between the detectives and the two main villains. Synopsis

Visiting his apartment to bring her teacher a long overdue essay, Kreasey noticed :

"Amy stood on her very highest heels, the ones that gave her an extra three-and-a-half inches over a world that had always seemed to look down on her beyond the narrow backs streets from which she'd been born. On her first visit, she had seemed almost undernourished, shivering in a short skirt with a slit up the side. He'd wanted to tell her that she'd made him happy - just by appearing on his doorstep with her essay and those eyes... eyes which spoke of deprivation and yet held, for him, openness and simplicity more beautiful than he'd seen in any student before.

Amy, alone among his students, had tried to help him. She was searching his eyes, confused. He recalled those moments when, beside him in bed, her face had shared that open comic side of her lovemaking with him. He couldn't forget how much she'd tried to be his passport to those roughnecks from classroom 12D... those who always seemed to be gathering with a hunting knife, getting closer...

'Well, are we going to see you in them?' she smiled, still holding his shorts out like a trophy. But as he watched her lips, they seemed to shape like those in a poorly dubbed film where the voice is out-of-sync with the words... reminding him to 'eat up' all his tablets and then he'd never be 'cut up' . "

Editorial Reviews :

" An atmospheric, vibrant, almost spooky page-turner and a psychological suspense, both moving and tender. "

Reay Tannahill - historian, novelist and author of The Seventh Son.

" As a former London teacher, Raymond Nickford has nailed the teacher's fear of the 'Lord of the Flies' pack mentality perfectly. And what a cliffhanger ! "

Synopsis

(A warning from the author:
As with the 1st book, there are a few very dark passages here: parts where I cried as I wrote them, and still cry when I read them - though for some, they're tears of joy. I should add, though, I find myself chuckling quite often, too: I believe there are more light moments than dark.)

Raised at the Institute for Paranormal Dysfunction to test Dr Alex Harmon's theories, Leeth's magic took everyone by surprise. And now, she and her abusive guardian have been taken by a covert government agency where Leeth is training to become their assassin.

But Leeth is both more dangerous than they know, and too innocent for her own good. Sent "back" to school to learn some much-needed social skills – under strict instructions not to kill – Leeth is singularly ill-equipped to deal with the challenges of a normal life.
She wants to belong, but has little idea how to fit in – let alone how mean girls can be.

Nor does she know that an uncanny and ruthless killer, the product of a madman's insane magic, hunts her.

Leeth has some harsh lessons to learn.

She'd better learn fast.

Four young Americans are magically transported to a world where monsters roam the land, magnificent trees support all life, and an evil spirit hunts one of them to fulfill a deadly prophecy.

An experiment in a weird book causes four youngsters, Nathan, Perry, Melissa, and Michelle to appear in an incredibly strange and desolate world. Trees as large as mountains, scattered across the desolate land like oases, support all life, safe from the monsters that patrol the night fog on the ground. Races of people living in medieval societies populate the giant trees. Known as the Lorns in this particular tree, they welcome the four kids into their world—until Hellferata, the evil spirit descendent of Medusa, intrudes upon their beloved tree.

As the kids search for a way home, Hellferata searches for the prophesied mortal superhero she must battle to the death. Suspecting Michelle for this golden-haired superhero, Hellferata sends her son, Dracu Mort, into the Lorn Tree to kill her. Fearful of the evil spirit the Lorns move to expel the four Americans from their tree. Thinking quickly, the kids devise a plan to avoid the monsters roaming the land and travel to the next tree, where it is rumored there may be a path back home. Will their ingenuity, cunning, and courage help them make it to the Cascade Tree and find a way home, or will Hellferata and Dracu Mort mete out their wrath before they can escape?

Imparting the inspiring message that fear is but a passing foil and love is the true answer, Arboregal- The Lorn Tree is a spiritual quest of hope and friendship that exposes the inherent power we all share.

Synopsis

Born 1980––Died 1940?

Benjamin Bauman, a contemporary Jewish Orthopedic Surgeon, is blinded by a flash of light while driving his car. When the light subsides, he gathers himself and discovers he is now driving another car in another time period. He panics and crashes the vehicle into a light pole.

After quickly diagnosing his injuries and reestablishing his unbelievable plight, Ben blacks out. When he awakens he finds himself in a Berlin hospital in Nazi Germany.

It is Christmas Day, 1937.

To the people around him Ben is Karl Schroder, a high-ranking Generalarzt and Chief Surgeon of that same hospital. Ben knows nothing of Karl’s past but, among many other surprises, he now speaks fluent German and discovers that Karl had been very close to an empathetic nurse, Elsa Hirsh, who is tending to his wounds.

Still in panic mode, Ben finds a mirror and discovers that his journey has not physically altered his appearance. Yes, he is a Jew in Nazi Germany, but nobody seems to realize this but Ben. His “memory loss” and sudden knowledge of a new language is “scientifically” attributed to the blow in the head he received during the accident.

From the German perspective Ben’s new language is American English, the language he retained during his trip into the past—a language Karl did not speak.

This miraculous infusion of a new language after a traffic accident intrigues members of Hitler's inner circle and brings the reluctant Ben face to face with the likes of Hermann Goering, Joseph Goebbels, Adolf Hitler and, with a stroke of luck, the famed American broadcaster and author, William L. Shirer.

Ben’s obvious goal is to try return to the present, but as time goes by he feels he was propelled into the past for a yet to be determined mission. If so, what will his mission be? Is he there to kill Hitler––warn England and America of a looming world war––warn the Jews of the impending holocaust––or is it something more benign, like simply trying to stay alive?

But now Roy has retired and he is looking forward to a quieter life. He and his wife, Donna, have bought an apartment in an exclusive development on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

He soon learns, however, that there are financial problems: the community is, in effect, bankrupt. It soon becomes clear, however, that nothing is as simple as it seems.

As he tries to come up with a rescue plan, Roy discovers that a poorly-constructed retaining wall has begun to collapse, threatening the development with a landslide. And this is just the start …

As the problems mount up, one after the other, Roy becomes entangled with an astonishingly diverse cast of characters: the devious building developer; the vengeful former President; the Russian prostitute, and her mafia minders; the deranged Middle-Eastern doctor; the devastatingly glamorous French girl who moves in next door; and many more ...

His overpowering desire to gain wealth and social standing at any price cast a devastating effect on the lives of his family, and anyone who crossed his path. His determination to better himself and make Helen Whipple his wife was only the beginning of a life of deception which left a tangle of lies behind him. When Helen’s daughter was left to raise Toby Blake’s only child under his strict and ruthless rule, Hester was determined to honour her mother’s wish, and the promise she had made to her. Hester’s strong love for her sister and the vow she had made to protect her from the evil ways of Toby Blake, meant a youth spent like a caged bird, desperate to find a way of escaping and of keeping her sister safe. Being forced to suddenly leave London for Oxford in 1873, Hester lost all contact with her only friend and childhood sweetheart, Harvey Gladstone, and as Toby Blake became trapped within his web of lies, he was prepared to take extreme measures, regardless of the consequences. How far was Toby Blake willing to go? Would Hester ever find freedom and her true love? A gripping tale of love, betrayal, and family loyalties.

Synopsis

Murder on the Sky Ride, Fiction/Mystery

This novel is full of action and good detective work. It also gives a picture of the diverse ethnic and cultural makeup of Texas. It gives a private view of two Texas families, one whose members range from dope smuggler to successful attorney-politician, and the other ranging from a hot-head Chicano activist to a Texas Ranger.

Some of the characters: Gar Garcia, Texas Ranger under special orders of the governor; Steve Pearce, 21, ex-convict, trying to stay out of trouble but not succeeding; Johnny Diaz, almost, but not quite, bad to the bone; Burke Masters, big man with big money; and Hawknose, career criminal.

The story is set in San Marcos, Texas, at an amusement park located where the San Marcos River, as a giant spring, wells up out of the ground cool and clear. San Marcos is a real city but events and characters portrayed there are fictional. Real people are mentioned, such as Lyndon B. Johnson and Jimmy Carter, but are not characters.

Historical notes about the Texas Rangers are accurate. The mammalian diving reflex described in the novel is accurate, as well as the homicide exclusion in insurance policies, and oil field technicalities, but events surrounding them are fictional.

The story takes place in 1978 when detectives had to work harder than now. They had two-way radios, telephone beepers, but no cell phones or personal computers. Most police departments had no computers at all. Police reports were laboriously typed out by hand over several carbon copies, the last of which were barely legible. Police work was real work. Go along with Texas Ranger Gar Garcia as he works through clues, diversions, and deception.

Synopsis

It is the mid-twenty first century. The world is recovering from what scholars will refer to as the “Jihad War.”

Nations of the world united to bring a permanent end to radical terrorism. The unification of the nations has also given birth to the popular concept of a governing “World Union,” in which the United States intends to be a major player. The timing could not be any better. A presidential election year is on the horizon and a faceless rouge element is committed to having one of their own in the White House.

There were extreme losses of life and property in the concentrated battle theater of the Middle East.

The leading nations of the world emerged victorious over the oppressive extremists that threatened the civil and moral fabric of modern society. The high price of victory was unavoidable.

Nuclear weapons were used in order to bring the destructive war to an abrupt end.

The United States found itself as the sole military and financial leader of the world’s war against the radical terrorists. The war’s length lasted far beyond what had been predicted, diminishing many of the United States resources specifically, its wealth. Bringing the proud nation to the brink of bankruptcy.

Radiation from the nuclear weapons contaminated 85% of the water supply in the Middle East and large amounts were now being detected in the Atlantic Ocean.

A private and well-funded individual has been anticipating a catastrophe such as this, and has spun a web so delicate, its victims don’t realize they are trapped until it’s too late. She has assembled the best minds in order to develop a device that would instantly purify polluted and contaminated water.

However, this device is not being developed for humanitarian reasons. It is being developed for wealth and power. Not for an individual, but for a nation…the United States of America.

Neptune’s Chalice by M.J. Feinauer is a 5 Star – Must read book which has received rave reviews from Amazon readers and reviewers.

*The editing mistake noted in a previous review of this book - namely a chapter appearing twice - has now been corrected. My apologies to anyone who bought this edition of the book.* Cole Jensen is a hack who makes good money writing bad books about women - until another hack comes along and usurps him, and he finds himself bankrupt and homeless. He is taken in and given a job by Constance Morrell, an icily beautiful woman who feels she owes him a favour.

Now home is a pool house at the bottom of the garden of a mansion in the Hollywood hills. There are many perks to his new living situation, but there are also drawbacks, not the least of which is being expected to entertain the odd, sinister women Constance invites to her nightly soirees. Cole's disturbing encounters with these women give him the inspiration to begin work on the novel he's always wanted to write - a social satire on the nocturnal activities of the rich and bored - but with the party games getting darker and the guest list dropping by the day, Cole must decide whether artistic integrity is really worth dying for.

The Last Mentsch is a work of historical fiction told to the interlocutor by Yitzhak, the son of Theodore Isaacs.  It covers a period of almost 125 years in a time of tumultuous political, economic and social change in Southern Africa. The novel uncovers one of the missing pieces of that time – a story of a Jewish child pioneer, hustled out of Europe in the mid-nineteenth century to escape increasing waves of anti-Semitic ‘justice’ meted out in the ghettos and schtetls of Europe.  In essence the book is an adventure set in a multicultural society, when a great many of the earliest pioneers were little more than children. It is a story, which, while set in Southern Africa, also resonates with generations on people whose forebears arrived alone in South Africa, Australia, Israel, the United States, Canada, New Zealand ... and indeed, throughout the world, wherever the British Empire planted its flags.

Synopsis

THE TROUBLE WITH TROUBLE is a powerful erotic thriller set in a Sheffield police station. The story follows on from The Trouble With Liam but can be read as a standalone. When a forensic scientist invents a potent sexual arousal cream called Trouble, it causes huge problems for DCI Jeremy Cosgrove, his beautiful, sex-addicted liaison officer, Kate Pendleton, and two other women who also work at the station. It’s a tale of blackmail, lust, secrets, hidden identities, and murder. The Trouble With Trouble is like Line of Duty but with explicit sex.

"Outrageous."

Be warned. As with book 1 in the Trouble series, The Trouble with Trouble isn’t a book for the faint-hearted or easily shocked. I’ve written two more books in the Trouble series which can also be read as standalones. I hope to publish books 3 and 4, Trouble In Cornwall and Troubled in late 2020.

SEA OF GOLD
MONEY, MURDER AND LOVE ON THE HIGH SEAS. IN THE WORLD OF SHIPPING THE RULES ARE BLURRED AND THE OCEANS LAWLESS
When instinct tells maritime claims investigator Angus McKinnon that a wave of frauds must be connected, he thinks it’s just business as usual. Instead, he uncovers a ruthless conspiracy born of greed and the lust for power.
As he starts to unravel a trail leading from the post-Soviet drabness of a Black Sea port to a sweltering anchorage in the Gulf of Thailand, a devastating explosion in the Indian Ocean changes everything.
Facing down terrifying childhood memories, torn between two very different women and doubting old friends, McKinnon must navigate a precarious path between secretive government agencies, shady syndicates and avaricious crime lords, towards an unpredictable endgame.
A gripping page-turner, Sea of Gold draws the reader into a world of extremes, the casual affluence of the super-rich contrasting with the dignified poverty of the desperate. Meanwhile, McKinnon’s two loves – the enigmatic Claire and his devoted long-term lover, Eleni, vie for his attention.

Marine claims investigator Angus McKinnon is summoned to Hong Kong, his personal city of ghosts, where a local shipowner and his beautiful daughter need his help.
But their claim on a mysterious cargo lost during the War is not as simple as they say, and the cold case abruptly heats up when Angus’s old friend and mentor is violently murdered back in Greece.
Haunted, obstructed and plagued by self-doubt, Angus soon finds himself trapped in a web of international intrigue that draws him to the typhoon-lashed South China Sea and the shocking discovery of a plan to attack Hong Kong and hold Asia Pacific – and the world beyond – to ransom. But the trail doesn’t end there …
Amidst relentless danger, Angus’s resolve is once more tested down to the wire.

BLACK REEF
A SHIP’S CAPTAIN IS FOUND HANGED IN HIS CABIN: SUICIDE OR MURDER?
Marine claims investigator Angus McKinnon is assigned to the case, but when he discovers a falsely declared cargo of military equipment in the ship’s holds, alarm bells start ringing in the intelligence world.
What looked routine becomes a perilous mission to thwart a coup d’état that threatens to pit two global superpowers against one another, while a secretive bank with Nazi gold glimmering darkly in its vaults attempts to derail the investigation.
And as questions and misgivings mount, what motivates the beautiful Mariana da Cunha to help Angus in the troubled land of her birth?
From the Atlantic Ocean to the jungles of West Africa and a final face-off in the vast emptiness of the Sahara, McKinnon must finally join with a daunting array of military resources, and marshal his own wits to bring down a psychopathic war criminal and those playing him as their proxy.

She’s a woman who appears super-normal at first glance. She resides in a modest house in a small Irish town, and commutes to a typical office. She’s a lone parent who misses her children now that they are at college. Yet Dorothy is so much more than the obvious. She is a powerful psychic who has been masquerading as normal for twenty years. She is also a woman who has been avoiding men since a nasty breakup and divorce left her reeling in shock while still in her twenties.

How practical do you think it is to stay safe when so many of those around you seem to resent your good fortune?

This box set contains the following three books:

DOROTHY LYLE IN AVARICE – BOOK 1. Join Dorothy on the first leg of her rollercoaster journey as she discovers what an emotionally charged and complicated experience dealing with unexpected wealth can be. Clairvoyance may in handy on occasion, but it doesn’t help you decide who gets what!

Synopsis

Lavinia and her two sisters, recipients of an unexpected inheritance, have changed their names and moved far away from those who reviled them because they were adopted—a disgrace in 1893. But had they moved far enough? Their guardian’s grasping, greedy and vindictive brother resolved to take back their inheritance and expose them as adoptees in their new town—thus ruining their businesses and reputations.
Considered fast because they shortened their skirts, wore bloomers, and straddled bicycles, they banded with other females in their new town. Lavvy sold her perfumes and lotions in the general store, and organized an impromptu raid on the local Business Association.
Sam Blake claimed Lavinia as “his lady” as soon as he saw her. Incensed with Cyrus’ determination to destroy them, he pledged his support to the three in various ways—all of them unacceptable to his lady. Misadventures and mishaps notwithstanding, the two worked toward a common goal. Or did they?
