Synopsis

What Doug finds in the secret compartment of his new red Corvette will forever change his life. It will also change Catherine’s. Doug and Catherine come from two different worlds. Catherine’s world is one of privilege and wealth. Doug grew up dirt poor and full of envy of others who had the things that he wanted but could not have. His goal was to one day have all the things he coveted. Their worlds collide when Catherine, VP of a large New York City marketing firm, hires Doug. As soon as Doug learns of Catherine’s wealth, he sees Catherine as his ticket to all the things he covets. After a whirlwind courtship, they are married.

Poor boy meets rich girl should have resulted in “happily ever after” — not exactly. Doug quickly learns he also covets independence. Events begin to unfold in each of their lives. For Doug, it is his mysterious discovery in the secret compartment of the Corvette. For Catherine, it is a business meeting with Alex Droxell at the Osprey Cove Lodge. When Catherine enters the beautiful and serene lodge, it’s as though she is entering another place and time. The lodge is an escape from the nightmare she is living back home. Follow the twists and turns of Book 1 of the Osprey Cove Lodge Series. Follow Doug and Catherine’s story to see if there is a “happily ever after” and with whom.

EXCERPT:
It appeared to Catherine as though she had just approached Mr. Darcy’s Pemberly in all its magnificence. Now she knew how Elizabeth felt at her first sighting of Pemberly. But unlike Elizabeth, Catherine thought, there would be no happy ending. This would not become her home one day, as Pemberly had become Elizabeth’s, and live happily ever after. Catherine did not covet the house that lay before her. In fact, Catherine was wealthy enough to buy a home like it, if she so desired. What Catherine did long for was what Pemberly represented to all Jane Austen lovers — the culmination of a beautiful love affair. Catherine was not naive enough to expect her life to be storybook in nature. But she did not expect her life with Doug to disintegrate into shambles just two years after marrying him. She did not understand why it was happening. She did not know how to fix it.

Book 2 of The Osprey Cove Lodge series is full of suspense, mystery, romance, and intrigue.

Excerpt:
"It was a kiss that seemed to match the emotion of the beauty in which they found themselves. It was soft and tender like the calm waters surrounding them. But it was also laced with the passion of the sun that had just risen and made its way through the morning clouds. It seemed to speak without words being spoken as did the inanimate objects around them. It was a kiss that lingered just as the slightest ripple from the middle of the lake lingered and made its way to the shore. It communicated a depth of love that transcended passion. Hidden in its depth was the promise of new beginnings."

Synopsis

Over 2,100 5-Star Reviews! Called "a terrifically entertaining thriller!" by Publishers Weekly, Book-1 of the Brainrush series was named The Wall Street Journal #1 Bestselling Action/Adventure in their Guide to Self-Published Big Sellers, while Book-2 held a death grip on the #1 or #2 slots of the Amazon Top-Rated (best reviewed) Mystery/Thrillers list for 10 straight months. This set the stage for the blockbuster release of the final book in the trilogy, which was heralded by Suspense Magazine as "part science fiction, part thriller, part suspense, part love story, and part mystery. It's got it all and that's what makes this novel one of the best."

Before he slid into the MRI machine, Jake Bronson was just an ordinary guy with terminal cancer. But when an earthquake hits during the procedure, Jake staggers from the wreckage a profoundly changed man, now endowed with uncanny mental abilities.

An ocean away, Luciano Battista wants a piece of Jake's talent. Posing as a pioneering scientist, the terrorist leader has been conducting cerebral-implant experiments in a sinister quest to create a breed of super jihadist agents...and Jake's altered brain may be the key to his success. But Jake refuses to play the pawn in an unholy war--and when an innocent woman and autistic child are taken hostage to force his cooperation, he embarks on a jihad of his own. Jake and his band of loyal friends are thrust into a deadly chase that leads from the canals of Venice through Monte Carlo and finally to an ancient cavern in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan--where Jake discovers that his newfound talents carry a hidden price that threatens the entire human race.

The wild ride continues through books two and three of the trilogy, with locations that include the beaches of California, a raging underground river in Mexico, the rain forests of Venezuela, the Mediterranean coast, the Swiss Alps, and finally to a secret southeast Asia island, where Jake must lever every scrap of his failing brain to prevent an apocalyptic disaster.

An "international thriller with soul." Ideal reading for fans of Michael Crichton, Clive Cussler, James Rollins, Brad Thor, Dan Brown, Matthew Reilly, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and Vince Flynn.

Book cover image for The Bride's Trunk: A Story of War and Reconciliation
View full details

Synopsis

"An extraordinary narrative"
"Beautifully told - stays with you long after the last page is sadly turned."
"Carefully pieced together from personal and official documents, oral testimony and material objects"

A true story of love and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Second World War

Minny leaves Germany on a bitterly cold morning in December 1946 and travels to England to marry Jim, a British Intelligence Corps soldier in the Allied armies that defeated the Nazi regime in 1945 and occupied the devastated nation. She has survived British and American bombs and witnessed the destruction of Aachen, her ancient and beautiful city. How will a German woman cope in austere post-war Britain, where she is still regarded as the enemy? Illustrated with almost 100 images and original documents, The Bride's Trunk describes the adventures of an unremarkable piece of luggage and three generations of its owners, whose journeys across Europe are determined by the turbulent events of twentieth century history.

Some comments on 'The Bride's Trunk'

“An extraordinary narrative, pieced together from original documents, about a couple who were determined not to let war defeat them. 70 years ago the British government passed a law allowing British men to marry German women, but little thought was given to the life that those German women would find, in the aftermath of the second world war. This heart-warming tale brings alive childhood and adolescence in pre-war Germany, followed by a new life in the old enemy country."
Jackie Ashley, President of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, and journalist

“Scant attention has been paid to the 10,000 or so German women who married British soldiers at the end of the Second World War. In this often moving account, Ingrid Dixon traces the story of her own parents, one a former secretary for the German police, the other a British soldier from the Intelligence Corps, both of whom were caught up in the chaotic last months of the Third Reich and its immediate aftermath. Their story is carefully pieced together from personal and official documents, oral testimony and material objects, including the old trunk which survived the vicissitudes of war to carry the bride’s worldly possessions to her new home in Liverpool.”
Professor Peter Wilson, Chichele Professor of the History of War, University of Oxford

“A gripping and moving story, with excellent illustrations, which really evokes time and place and is a sensitive treatment of the conflicting feelings associated with war.”
Dr Philip Towle, Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Cambridge

Synopsis

“Readers will not be disappointed with the Mule Spinners Daughters. It had me gripped from start to finish.”
“G J Griffiths superb storytelling captures the historical elements of socioeconomics, religion, humor, romance…”
Sebastian : But there is an obstacle, a principle of hers that she’s read of in a book by a woman called Mary Wollstonecraft... ‘Women should be wives and companions to their husbands!”
Did Mary Wollstonecraft fill the farm girl’s head with too many ideas of feminism?

When Sally Sefton runs away from Sebastian at the altar on her wedding day there is a desperate chase to find her. Some of her friends think they know why she ran. But only Cathy Priestley thinks she knows where. Her chief bridesmaid suspects Sally may have joined the Christian Israelites. Will they find her before the group sails on a missionary tour abroad? The split causes a bitter dispute between Sebastian and Wesley, her brother. While feelings are running so high there seems to be no hope of reconciliation between the families.

Book One in the series, ‘The Quarry Bank Runaways’, tells the much earlier tale of their fathers when they journeyed on foot to Hackney workhouse in London. They were then boy apprentices who had escaped from the Cheshire cotton mill, desperate to find their destitute mothers.

Book two, ‘Mules; Masters & Mud’, is about what happened to the apprentices during the Industrial Revolution, when they were qualified cotton mule spinners. Serious events, including the Peterloo Massacre, impinge upon the lives of Thomas Priestley and Joseph Sefton.

Synopsis

A killer is leaving a trail of bodies all over Chicago and each one is a puzzle piece….

Carly wasn’t ready to deal with betrayal when it came. And there was no one there to offer a hand to help her get back up. Her ex used that weakness to convince the judge that she was an unfit mother. It wasn’t all about child support. It was malice, pure and simple. One part of her however, didn’t fracture. The one that wore a badge and swore to protect citizens of Chicago from all perils, foreign and domestic.

That part will always function at the peak of its efficiency. Especially when detective-sergeant Carolyn Osych is called in the middle of the night, to the site of yet another bizarre and disturbing murder. Five pounds of flesh has been vaporized from a man’s chest. Basically, his chest has been cored. The wound has been cauterized. She can see right through the hole the gravel that covers the parking lot. She knows that a lot of grueling work lies ahead.

What she doesn’t know is that the victim lying on the cold ground, is just the first in a long, terrifying string of bodies killed the same way. And that the killer will stop at nothing until he finds the right victim.

Synopsis

Although my degree was in Psychology and Philosophy, my interest in the lonely, the outsider and the dysfunctional and their search for love has been inspired more by life and a feel for translating life into character and so into fiction.

I suppose my love of the expressive power of language leaves my work hovering somewhere between literary fiction and character observation - characters tested and driven to extremity and yet who still have the option to find happiness.

I hope each book title will deliver the sincerity of this, granted that each will have a different, setting, location, plot synopsis and emotional core. Here is a customer review.

The first story, "A Musical Calling", seemed at first just a well written portrait of a guy, Sam Baldock, who suffered the delusions or calling of voices, as a schizo. But this one, like the others, with the exception of the romance at the end, lulled me with its apparent realism only to leave me well and truly in the presence of the supernatural.

A ghost in itself isn't usually enough for me but I have to say that the troubled characters, as drawn, really drew my interest.

If the ghost was never identified or even directly implied in these stories, there was still a mounting feeling in each as if the dark spread wings of a vulture loomed ever closer and those wings were going to engulf, the beak to stab away at a point unknown. Whether the feeling was delivered by Dr Harditch, the less than professional Harley Street hypnotist treating a nurse for her fear of spiders or by Sam Baldock, the schizophrenic dad remote from his lonely little daughter and committed to an asylum where he thinks he hears the voice of Beethoven calling him, the stories did get under my skin.

Synopsis

This is the personal story of Joe B. Hewitt who escaped from the Watchtower Cult. The first half of the book is a narrative of how the author came to the realization that he had been lied to and had repeated lies to others, how, after he left the Jehovah’s Witnesses his mother was forced to declare him dead and to shun him.

He tells of his call into the ministry and experiences dealing with Jehovah’s Witnesses. The book refutes the peculiar doctrines of the Watchtower Society such as: denial of the deity of Jesus Christ; denial of his literal and physical resurrection; denial of the Christian’s hope of heaven; denial of the existence of hell; and many others.

Hewitt also refutes the Watchtower’s peculiar rules that Jehovah’s Witnesses are required to live by, including prohibiting them from celebrating Christmas. A section: “Why Celebrate Christmas?” gives Biblical reasons for celebrating Christmas.

Book cover image for Her demonic Angel: and other short stories

Synopsis

Her demonic Angel and other short stories, published in 2016, is a collection of all of my short stories written thus far. This baker's dozen of short stories have been written in a variety of genres so hopefully there should be something for everyone. Some tales are stranger than others, but all could be said to be different shades of dark. Despite its somewhat suggestive title, Her demonic Angel is not erotica.

To whet your appetite, here are the titles of some of the short stories: ‘The boy they called Dragon’, ‘The day nobody gave a damn’, ‘An email from Jane’, ‘Stuff’, ‘Getting rid of the enemy’, ‘Skin’, ‘Too beautiful’, ‘Philately will get you nowhere’, ‘Mirror, mirror’, ‘In memoriam'.

Available in Kindle, paperback, and audiobook editions.

Synopsis

Please enter manuallyDuring one of the worst storms of November 1857, a young woman embarks on a desperate journey from London to Oxfordshire, hoping to reach the safety of her grandmother's home, where she grew up. In the relentless, torrential downpour and the gusty, chilling gales, the crippling pains of childbirth, force Faye Butler to deliver her heavy load on a soaked and muddy ditch by the side of the desolate highway. Exhausted, terrified, and completely alone, in the blackness of night, a baby girl enters the world.Meanwhile, as daybreak arrives after a disastrous evening in a London gentleman's club, Harry Fairbanks, a supposedly wealthy businessman is returning home to Harberton Mead House in Oxford. After losing virtually everything he owns at the gaming tables, he is left penniless and in debt.In a distraught state, and dreading having to break the news to his wife, Delia, of six years, his troubled mind prevents him from nodding off in his carriage and as dawn breaks, Harry suddenly catches sight of a discarded bonnet, fluttering in the wind upon a mound of mud. Ordering the coach driver to immediately halt, Harry Fairbanks is heartbroken by the harrowing scene which befalls him; a whimpering newborn, submerged in the cold muddy bog alongside her deceased mother. After rescuing the infant, and taking her home, Harry's life is made even more difficult when Delia and the staff at Harberton Mead become suspicious as to how Harry came upon the child. But, after succeeding to convince her that his story is the truth, Delia Fairbanks, who has yearned for her own child for many years, soon forms a strong attachment with baby Faye. In a desperate bid to try and recover some of his lost finances, Harry returns to the gaming tables of London where he becomes acquainted with Lyle Dagworth, who he finds in a state of melancholy. His eccentric wife, Marjorie Dagworth, who after seven months is still in full mourning over the tragic loss of her young baby, is driving him to despair and he fears for her sanity. When Harry discovers that Lyle Dagworth is a man of great wealth, he formulates a devious plan and offers Lyle the opportunity to purchase baby Faye.Whilst being entertained at Lyle Dagworth's impressive London home in Grosvenor Square, unknowingly to Harry, the bailiffs descend upon Harberton Mead and strip the house bare of its furniture and items of value, leaving Delia in a scornful rage. With the prolonged absence of Harry along with the threat that baby Faye will soon be taken from her and put into the workhouse, Delia decides that it is time to steer her life in a different direction and devote herself entirely to the precious baby who means the world to her. An intriguing, heartwarming novel with many unexpected twists and surprises. Guaranteed to tug on your heartstrings.

Synopsis

Murder on the Sky Ride, Fiction/Mystery

This novel is full of action and good detective work. It also gives a picture of the diverse ethnic and cultural makeup of Texas. It gives a private view of two Texas families, one whose members range from dope smuggler to successful attorney-politician, and the other ranging from a hot-head Chicano activist to a Texas Ranger.

Some of the characters: Gar Garcia, Texas Ranger under special orders of the governor; Steve Pearce, 21, ex-convict, trying to stay out of trouble but not succeeding; Johnny Diaz, almost, but not quite, bad to the bone; Burke Masters, big man with big money; and Hawknose, career criminal.

The story is set in San Marcos, Texas, at an amusement park located where the San Marcos River, as a giant spring, wells up out of the ground cool and clear. San Marcos is a real city but events and characters portrayed there are fictional. Real people are mentioned, such as Lyndon B. Johnson and Jimmy Carter, but are not characters.

Historical notes about the Texas Rangers are accurate. The mammalian diving reflex described in the novel is accurate, as well as the homicide exclusion in insurance policies, and oil field technicalities, but events surrounding them are fictional.

The story takes place in 1978 when detectives had to work harder than now. They had two-way radios, telephone beepers, but no cell phones or personal computers. Most police departments had no computers at all. Police reports were laboriously typed out by hand over several carbon copies, the last of which were barely legible. Police work was real work. Go along with Texas Ranger Gar Garcia as he works through clues, diversions, and deception.

Synopsis

‘…And many a weary heart shall sing
The Snowdrop bringeth Hope and Spring.’

(From the book Poetry of the Flowers by Mrs CM Kirtland 1800)

Hope is all Emmeline has.

Under rolling storm clouds and raging thunder, the Gods unleash their wrath upon the earth, and in the chaos of the countryside awash with rivulets, Alfie Beeson is felled by some unseen force. With a desperate burst of strength, Emmeline drags her unconscious husband back to their cottage.

Throughout the winter she ministers to his needs, following her Grandmother Aspasia’s recipes collected over the years in her delicately penned 'Home Remedies'. Alfie appears to be on the mend when the gentle, shivering snowdrops begin to raise their dainty heads above the snow, bringing hope. However, as the little flowers creep from the forest up to the cottage, Alfie takes a turn for the worse.

By the time the blooms are close enough to tap upon the door, she has lost her love. Grieving and bereft, Emmeline tries to cope without her soulmate. Her broken heart causes even her gentle artwork to suffer. Paintings are left unfinished in the parlour.

With the arrival of The Anniversary comes a surprise visitor. Will this visitor rekindle the light in Emmeline’s delicate brown eyes?

Can the hole in her heart ever be healed?

This heartfelt short story now includes a sample of some of Aspasia Cherry's A~Z of Herbal Remedies along with poetry, a few myths and a little magic about the local flora that would have been found in and around Emmeline's cottage.

Synopsis

A blend of fact and fiction this moving yet heartwarming book set in the late 1920's early 1930's, follows the challenges Marie faces when widowed with three teenage daughters to support. Thrust into a man's world in a new neighbourhood, how will the family fare? The book is based in north Manchester and a Lancashire market town.
The Accidental Bookmakeress revolves around family, people and events that happen in a Manchester community, where Marie, the Accidental Bookmakeress, works and lives with her three teenage daughters, her position at that time being quite unusual.
As time moves on, Marie and her daughters together with some friends invest in a dilapidated country hall with stables, this being close to the family farm where one of their friends lives. Whilst visiting a county show he rescues two mares from a cruel owner who was about to sell them to a glue factory agent. Surprisingly the mares are in foal, the colts being sired by the Native Indian stallions who were stars in the wild west show performing next to the county show's livestock market, from where their mothers were purchased. When born the foals don't fit the usual profile of race horses, but as they grow it soon becomes clear to everyone how incredibly fast they are. The family and friends become well liked in the country by farming folk and eligible estate owner alike. The book continues to evolve, to include moving, heartwarming and exciting events that happen, not just in the Manchester area, where Marie lives and works during the week but also in the country community where she, and her three daughters spend their weekends.

Synopsis

This collection of short stories and poems grew from many different sources. Some tales have been sitting in my writing files for nearly fifteen years waiting to be properly edited.
Many grew out of prompts from the people at various writing groups, and some even came from personal experience.
Some simple happened because during bouts of people watching I discovered there were short tales everywhere.
I am often asked how I can write some of my darker material when I generally am a bright and positive person.
Like most things in life, stories very quickly take on a life of their own, and if they choose to be dark, so be it. Every parent knows that some of their children will grow up happy and others will march to a totally different drummer.
So please enjoy this mad pool of stories and poems. It will be a meal with a wide variety of taste and flavor.

Synopsis

THE MIRACLES AND MILLIONS SAGA

‘UNPUTDOWNABLE’ – Says one reviewer.

This omnibus edition includes the first THREE books in the Dorothy Lyle series, and contains close to 1,000 pages of weird visions, vast sums of cash, inner musings on the cosmos, broken-hearted girls, friends with attitude, thrifty parents, relentless spending, vivid dreams, chocolate, fire-bombs, a gun-loving tough guy, humour and stalkers. This highly addictive series has it all.

Who is Dorothy Lyle?

She’s a woman who appears super-normal at first glance. She resides in a modest house in a small Irish town, and commutes to a typical office. She’s a lone parent who misses her children now that they are at college. Yet Dorothy is so much more than the obvious. She is a powerful psychic who has been masquerading as normal for twenty years. She is also a woman who has been avoiding men since a nasty breakup and divorce left her reeling in shock while still in her twenties.

The winds of change begin to blow around Dorothy as she approaches her fortieth birthday. An unfortunate affair of the heart means that her daughter, Diane, has distanced herself from her former home and doting mother. Dorothy wonders if some extra cash might alleviate the immediate problem.

Enter the lottery and one hundred and eight-five million tax free dollars.

How easy do you think it is to hide your true self when you unexpectedly become the fortieth richest woman in your own small country? How feasible do you think it is to avoid all dating and romantic involvements when you are single, and literally rolling in cash? How practical do you think it is to stay safe when so many of those around you seem to resent your good fortune?

This box set contains the following three books:

DOROTHY LYLE IN AVARICE – BOOK 1. Join Dorothy on the first leg of her rollercoaster journey as she discovers what an emotionally charged and complicated experience dealing with unexpected wealth can be. Clairvoyance may in handy on occasion, but it doesn’t help you decide who gets what!

DOROTHY LYLE IN COLOUR – BOOK 2. Relax with Dorothy as she begins to truly enjoy her wealth and changes in fortune. Only for her new-found pleasure to be jeopardised by a tarot card reading of all things! Once again, change is afoot, although this time it’s of a sinister nature.

DOROTHY LYLE IN HELP – BOOK 3. Watch what happens when Dorothy concedes that she cannot protect herself alone, and sets out to hire professional help. Ever wondered what it would be like to come face to face with your other half? The half you weren’t fully aware was even missing. And if he happened to be in a bad mood at that momentous moment, do you think it might colour your judgement? Read on, folks, and find out the answers to these questions and about a hundred more.

Sam Blake claimed Lavinia as “his lady” as soon as he saw her. Incensed with Cyrus’ determination to destroy them, he pledged his support to the three in various ways—all of them unacceptable to his lady. Misadventures and mishaps notwithstanding, the two worked toward a common goal. Or did they?
