Country: United Kingdom
Born and brought up in North West England, North Wales was a popular destination for holidays, especially as my mum's family came from there. As a child, during the summer holidays in the late 1950's early 60's, I would stay with my grandad in his tiny beach cottage, on the Isle of Anglesey. He would tell me stories, which at the time I didn't connect to King Arthur and his son Maelgwyn Hir, they were just interesting and I enjoyed listening. I thought King Arthur was fiction, as in Geoffrey Monmouth's book, but now much older, I realise what most of North Wales must already know, that the great Pendragon dynasty, who rescued Wales from invaders in the 5th century, built and lived in Deganwy Castle, Llandudno, Conwy. They were King Arthur and Maelgwyn Hir's ancestors.
